Extra, Extra, Read all about it!

As young adults, I expect each student to be respectful to each other and to me.  My classroom is my second home and I do not like to see it torn up or destroyed.  We do not touch things that do not belong to us, unless given permission.   There are new school rules in place that we need to adhere to.

In addition to following the school rules, I expect the following in my classroom:

Be Prompt

  • Arrive on time.

  • Turn in all work on time.

Be Prepared

  • Arrive with all of your materials.

  • Do any work not finished in class every night and bring back to school.

  • BRING A WRITING UNTENSIL

Be Polite

  • Keep hands, feet, objects, and comments to yourself.

  • Respect yourself, others, and the teacher.

  • Work during all work times.

  • Follow directions immediately.

DCA/TESTS SCHEDULE

Parents this an exciting time.  School has just begun and we are getting into our routines.  We will spend the first week doing relationship building activities and learning the expectations of our classroom.  Students will spend the week learning and reviewing .

We will ease into curriculum the first week to get our feet wet and get back into the groove of things.  I don't want them overwhelmed so soon after enjoying a relaxing summer break. But please remind your student, summer is over and school has begun.

Students will need to bring a writing tool to class everyday.   They will need a composition notebook to keep in class as their interactive notebook.  We always need tissues.  It would be greatly appreciated if every student could bring one box of tissues.

Open Door Policy and Communication:  We are partners in the education of your child.  You are welcome to visit the classroom whenever you have the time.  Please come in and get involved in your child’s education.  For detailed information about what your child is doing in class, please visit my website by going to http://brennanberry4.wixsite.com/dpmsela. This website is a valuable tool for information about my class.  The best way to contact me is by email (brennan_berry@roundrockisd.org) but, you may also call me at 512-464-6712 and I will return your call within 24 hours.

Communication

Food: I am not opposed to food and drink in the classroom.  I cannot go all day without snacking or drinking, but I do expect that students will clean up and food spilled and do not leave trash anywhere other than the trash can.  And I have a huge problem with schoolwork having red or orange finger prints on them.  All drinks need to have re-closable lids.  I will allow gum to be chewed, but if I find it stuck in places I will ban it from our learning environment.  No one likes to touch someone else's chewed gum, especially me!

Cell phones are a big issue with the constant changes in technological world.  There will be times that cell phones will be permitted in class, but when we are in our learning environment, I expect phones to be kept in backpacks and on silent.  We cannot allow students to accept phone calls during class, even from parents.  If you need to speak with your child in an emergency situation, please call the school directly and they will get your child.  Your students need to concentrate on what is going on in the classroom and by calling or texting during this time, you are providing a disruption of this.  Our main priority is and should be your child's education.
