HOW CAN I HELP AT HOME?

Your child will receive weekly homework. Every Monday they will receive a packet that contains reading and grammar practice that will be due on Friday.  Please make sure they complete this each week.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE TEACHER AT HOME?

Please encourage your child to read from a book each evening.  Reading has been proven to increase intelligence, vocabulary and brain function.  By increasing their reading time, students will feel less anxiety when they take tests.

WHAT KIND OF BOOKS SHOULD MY CHILD READ?

They should be reading books that are grade level and center around their personal interest.  Some students like non-fiction, other like mystery or sci-fi.  Even graphic novels are a beginning to reading.

Deerpark Middle School Grading Policy & Late Work Policy

Grading Policy: Unless otherwise approved by the Campus Administration. The Deerpark grading policy

*Grade categories and assignment weights will be decided by each horizontal PLC and follow the

RRISD grading policy.

*Per district policy, no single assignment/assessment grade will count more than 30% of the total

average, and no two assignments/assessment grades will count more than 50% of the total

average.

*Teachers are required to have a minimum of 2 common assessments per six weeks and a

minimum of 1 grade per week recorded in the Grade book.

*Final Semester exams will be weighted 10% of the semester average.

Late work policy: Round Rock ISD Board Policy states that “all students will be provided a reasonable and fair opportunity for re-teach and re-do of a class assignment/examination for which the student received a failing grade.”

* Homework, daily work, projects, essays, etc: Students will have one week (7 calendar days)

after an assignment is due to turn in the missing assignment for a maximum of 70% credit.

*Unit Assignments (Tests and quizzes): Students who fail a test or a quiz will have one week

from the time the test/quiz is returned in order to retake it for a maximum grade of 70% credit.

Test retakes occur before and after school.

*Teachers may require a student to attend a tutorial session before the student is allowed to retake a quiz or test.

*Test corrections may not be used to recuperate credit because they do not show

student mastery of the tested concept.

Teachers should make a reasonable effort to contact parents and inform parents of missing assignments and opportunities to make up those assignments.

Teachers should contact parents if their child is going to fail for the six weeks.

Students who are absent: According to district policy, students have a minimum of 2 days to make up assignments from being absent due to illness. If a student misses more than 2 days, then the student has as many days as they are absent to make up work without any penalty.  Students, parents, and teachers are expected to work together to find a solution that helps the students recuperate credit in a timely and successful manner.

Work gets misplaced, lost or just forgotten.  Be sure to check here if you need to get make-up work.  Not everything will be found here, but most can be.
